The Best WordPress Plugins 2019

WordPress plugins, my favourite things!

The essentials

WP-DB Manager
Allows you to optimize/repair/backup/restore the database, delete / backup database, drop/empty tables and run selected queries.

Contact Form 7
A simple but flexible contact form plugin.

Better WP Security
The easiest, most effective way to secure WordPress. Improve the security of any WordPress site in seconds.

Useful Plugins

PrettyLink Pro
One of my favourite plugins, Shortlinks by Prettylink is all you really need. It allows you to create pretty looking links, for example, if I was to link to some affiliate link it might look like this amazon.co.uk/dfsidjawdijaoiwd-wadoijawodijaw-awdoijawoidjaoiw-awoidjawoid which is hideous, so I would instead create a pretty link – crystalpulse.co.uk/words and THAT, it a lot nicer!

MonsterInsights Google Analytics
Used to be Yoast. Improve your WordPress SEO: Write better content and have a fully optimized WordPress site using the WordPress SEO plugin. Compared to the other options, AllinOne and Squirrly, this one wins for me. AllinOne doesn’t offer as many options and Squirrly, although friendly is quite imposing in its ‘help’!

Broken Link Checker
Will check your posts, comments and other content for broken links and missing images, and notify you if any are found.

WP-PageNavi
Adds a more advanced paging navigation interface. Elementor (and many other page builders and themes I’m sure) comes with one of these options built in, and I imagine a fair few themes would as well. But, for those that don’t and just have ‘Previous’ ‘Next’ etc that don’t really help explain how many pages of blogs there might be and it’s slow to browse. With this plugin, you can skip to the oldest posts easily or jump into the middle.

WooCommerce
An e-commerce toolkit that helps you sell anything. Beautifully.

Analytics360
Allows you to pull Google Analytics and MailChimp data directly into your dashboard, so you can access robust analytics tools without leaving WordPress. Compliments of MailChimp.

Editorial Calendar
The Editorial Calendar makes it possible to see all your posts and drag and drop them to manage your blog. Think scheduling blog posts, very efficient.

WP Better Attachments
A better way to attach images and media. Shows you what posts they are attached to and helps build galleries easier.

Enable Media Replace
Really useful for updating images. In the past you would upload your updated image and it would need to append the file name. With this plugin you can just straight writeover it. Huge life quality increase!

Anti Spam

Antispam Bee
Easy and extremely productive spam-fighting plugin with many sophisticated solutions. Includes protection again trackback spam.

Bad Behaviour
Deny automated spambots access to your PHP-based Web site.

Speed up WordPress

WP Fastest Cache
This is the one I now use. It felt a little more lightweight and I felt quite a big improvement after installing it personally.

W3 Total Cache
Improve site performance and user experience via caching. An alternative to the above that worked really well.

EWWW Image Optimizer
Reduce file sizes for images in WordPress to make them squiggly small.

Lazy Load
Lazy load images to improve page load times. Uses jQuery.sonar to only load an image when it’s visible in the viewport.

Media File Sizes
See how big your images are, sort them by largest, get rid or sort out the big ones!

Social Media

jQuery Pin It Button for ImagesIf you hover over an image on my blog, that nice Pin It flag appears, that’s done with this plugin :D I like that it only gives the one option, there is Frizzly their latest plugin, which is really nice, BUT gives you the 3 options; Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and that might be 2 too many for my liking atm!

Revive Old Post Lite
Tweets your older posts, lovely!
